Prof. Sung Joong Kim of the Department of Nuclear Engineering was selected as a recipient of the 36th Excellent Paper Award in Science and Technology, established by the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST).

The awarded paper, “Evaluation of accident mitigation capability of passive core and containment cooling systems of i-SMR under representative LOCA and non-LOCA conditions,” assesses how well the passive core cooling and passive containment cooling systems of i-SMR mitigate accidents under representative loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) and non-LOCA conditions.

Prof. Kim leads the Advanced Thermal Hydraulics Engineering for Nuclear Applications (ATHENA) laboratory.
