Department of Nuclear Engineering
Nuclear engineering is an advanced, technology-intensive, interdisciplinary field that integrates fundamental sciences such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, and medicine with engineering disciplines including mechanical engineering, materials engineering, electrical and control engineering, and computer engineering. Nuclear technology is broadly divided into nuclear power generation technology, which harnesses fission energy for electricity production, and radiation application technology, which utilizes various types of radiation from radiation-generating devices or radioisotopes.

The nuclear power generation field encompasses reactor core analysis and design as the core technology, along with thermal-hydraulics related to energy conversion systems, nuclear materials related to fuel and structural materials, and nuclear safety related to system and accident safety assessment. In addition to power generation technologies, nuclear engineering also includes radiation application disciplines covering radiation analysis, radiation measurement technology, medical radiation research, and radiation protection to prevent environmental release of radioactive materials and ensure human safety.
The Department of Nuclear Engineering at Hanyang University has secured excellent faculty and research capabilities in all related fields, and strives to contribute to national industrial development through the cultivation of outstanding professionals equipped with the qualifications and pride of nuclear engineering specialists who serve as the driving force of national progress.
